Forget Yogurt, Drink Kefir!

Studies have shown that the number one reason people eat or drink yogurt is because of its health benefits. People eat yogurt in the hopes of losing weight, cure some digestion problems or simply to feel better.

And there is much truth to this. Yogurt, as a probiotic, is very good for your body and its taste isn't too shabby either. It's good because it's made from lots of friendly bacteria and milk. And it is these friendly bacteria that fight off the harmful bacteria in your body and improves your bodily functions ranging from your immune system to your bowel movements.

Some of the known benefits of eating yogurt are:
# Strengthen the immune system
# May help prevent Osteoporosis
# Treatment for ulcers
# Reduce the risk of high blood pressure
# Helps treat lactose intolerance, constipation, diarrhea, colon cancer and inflammatory bowel disease
It's no wonder why yogurt is so popular among health conscious people.

But what if I told you there is a different kind of food that not only has the same health benefits as yogurt but much much more? And this miracle food is called Kefir.

Kefir is a fermented beverage made from kefir grains and milk. This kefir originated centuries ago in the Caucasus mountain region and is said to have been a gift from the Prophet Mohammed himself.

Whether this is true or not the healing qualities and nourishing attributes of kefir cannot be denied. Much scientific research has been conducted on kefir and kefir grains, and these results have shown that regular consumption of kefir lead to the following health benefits:
# 1. Regulates the blood pressure, blood sugar and prevents, controls and in some instances cures diabetes all together
# 2. Regulates cholesterol
# 3. Regulates the body's immune system and improves resistance to diseases
# 4. Heals the lungs from bronchitis, tuberculosis, asthma and allergies
# 5. Heals various eczema, various skin disorders and is an effective treatment for acne
# 6. Heals the kidneys, the urinary tract and protects the prostate for men and treats interstitial cystitis for women
# 7. Positive effect on osteoporosis and rheumatism
# 8. Heals the pancreas
# 9. Improves liver and gallbladder function and regulates bile production
# 10. Regulates metabolism, digestion and is an effective treatment for diseases of the colon
# 11. Effectively heals diarrhea, colitis, catarrh, reflux, leaky gut syndrome, reduces flatulence and corrects irritable bowel diseases
# 12. Helps lactose intolerant individuals digest lactose
# 13. Treatment for various cancers and minimizes tumors
# 14. Slows down the aging process due to its high content of anti-oxidants

These are the recorded health benefits so far of kefir. Much research is still needed to be performed, but one thing is for sure, its health benefits are unlike any other. And the same with yogurt, most of these benefits can be attributed to the number of healthy bacteria that can be found in kefir.

But comparing the number of friendly bacteria in yogurt and kefir, we can truly see how kefir is better than yogurt. Consuming 500ml of yogurt would give you 1.5 trillion beneficial bacteria, but consuming the same 500ml of kefir you would be getting 5 trillion good bacteria or more.

And not only that, while yogurt has bacteria that keep the digestive system clean and provide food for the good bacteria residing there, kefir has bacteria that can actually colonize the intestinal tract and keep it clean long after you have digested and excreted it.
